Who we are
Mackay Tourism Limited combines the resources of over 250 local organisations to implement its annual business and marketing plans to achieve tourism growth. Our members include major sponsors, state and local government agencies and a wide range of local tourism and travel industry beneficiaries. They enjoy a range of year-round direct and indirect member services while co-investing in the growth of the visitor industry across our region. Our members elect a Board who oversee MTL policy and governance.
Our Goal
Our goal is to see tourism as a major cornerstone of the regional economy, providing sustainable income and employment in our community and increasing the liveability of the region through expanding local amenities and recreational assets.
Our Aims
Our aim is to increase the competitive strengths and success of our destination through infrastructure and product development, industry skilling and effective, targetted promotion in our selected leisure and business tourism markets.
Our Values
MTL is apolitical and committed to the development of sustainable tourism to, and within, our region. Our organisation values the conduct of ethical, open trade between all parties and maintains a policy of transparency in all of our dealings.
Our Role
We exist to provide a co-operative mechanism between stakeholders to achieve tourism growth and development across our communities. Our success is measured by the number of visitor arrivals, their length of stay, dispersal and local expenditure.
Our History
Mackay Tourism was formed in 2003 from the previous Mackay Tourism and Development Bureau and its’ predecessors dating back to 1991
