Industry Development
A vital aspect of tourism success in Mackay region is the existence of sufficient capacity and product/service quality to handle growth potential and competitive product and service delivery. Mackay Tourism (MTL) actively monitors tourism growth prospects and endeavours to foster the emergence of increased capacity and industry capability to seize opportunities.
MTL works closely with Tourism Queensland, Mackay Airport, the Regional Economic Development Corporation, Mackay and Isaac Regional Councils, and various other federal and state agencies, to identify and address solutions to infrastructure and product gaps or potential shortcomings that could constrain tourism growth to our region. In recent years, we have commissioned (with the assistance of State Government), consultancy studies to investigate the feasibility of the following proposed developments:
Mackay Tourism is also partnering studies for:
- Increased city hotel capacity to meet forecast demand
- Mackay Airport passenger profiling to inform future planning
- Mackay Heritage Showcase project.
