The Mining Trail & Serenity Coast
Be inspired by the magic of The Mining Trail and splendour of the Serenity Coast that lie within the Mackay-Isaac region of Queensland. A tourist route less travelled, The Mining Trail follows the passage of coal from our mines in the Bowen Basin, to the place of export to our overseas customers. The trail spans some 300 kilometres along the Peak Downs Highway between Clermont, Moranbah, Dysart, Nebo, Mackay, Hay Point and Sarina. This unique self-drive escape from the chaos of city-life will introduce you to wide, beautiful landscapes, historic towns, vibrant mining communities, and impressive man-made works!
A landscape very different to that of Mackay’s prosperous hinterland is the Serenity Coast, which features a stretch of vast unspoilt beaches, rocky headlands and unforgettable coastal views that run from Mackay down to St Lawrence. Immerse yourself in a wonderland of fun, whether it be an expedition to Cape Palmerston National Park to discover its magnificent melaleuca forests and beaches, a trip to Carmila Beach to experience the taste sensation of homemade ice creams at Flaggy Rock or a visit to St Lawrence, one of Queensland’s oldest coastal towns dotted with historical buildings and interesting sites! Whether you are an experienced explorer or first time trekker The Mining Trail and Serenity Coast journey can be all things to all people.
