Film Locations
Optimum time for filming:
Ideal filming conditions are most likely from June to November; however our region has a delightful tropical climate that is similar to that found in the Hawaiian Islands, making a moderate temperature year round. Summers consist of warm, tropical weather without extreme temperatures and warm sunny winters. The average water temperature is a heavenly 22 degrees, making it perfect for year round swimming.
Outstanding features:
The mighty blue Pioneer River flows past the city's mixture of modern and historical buildings. Old pubs and stately palm trees fringe the main street, making the city heart tropical and relaxed. The impressive Mackay Marina Village is located just minutes drive from the city centre, with plenty of alfresco dining and stunning views. The region's hinterland, west of the city, is home to the lush lowland sugar cane fields of the Pioneer Valley and waterfalls and freshwater swimming holes of Finch Hatton Gorge. At Eungella National Park, you'll find year round platypus viewing, rare flora and fauna, rainforest walking trails and spectacular views across the valley. Cape Hillsborough National Park is infamous for wallabies on the beach at sunrise, rugged hillsides, stately hoop pines, nature walks and is where the rainforest literally meets the sea. Picturesque Keswick and Brampton Islands, located just off Mackay's coast offer holiday getaways, deserted golden beaches, untouched national parks and colourful coral gardens.
Requirements:
Film permits are required for filming in National Parks throughout Queensland, and can be obtained from the QPWS in Rockhampton on 07 4936 0511
