National Park Experiences
For those wilderness seekers who love the outdoors, scintillating scenery, intriguing wildlife, fresh air and wide, open spaces – then the Mackay Region is the perfect destination for you with unparalleled national parks and resplendent rainforests!
One of the most scenic parks along the central Queensland coast is Cape Hillsborough National Park which features rocky outcrops, sandy beaches, and a hoop-pine dotted hillside that plunges towards the sea! North of Mackay, its subtropical rainforest and mangrove-fringed wetlands provide the perfect walk. There are tidal rockpools, friendly wallabies that come down onto the beach each morning, and popular fishing spots! Stay or just enjoy a quiet picnic with your loved ones.
Another spectacle in the Mackay Region is Eungella National Park, one of Queensland’s most ecologically diverse locations and home to an array of flora and fauna, including the Eungella dayfrog, Mackay tulip oak, Eungella spiny cray and Eungella honeyeater. While much of the park is remote and inaccessible, the Mackay Highlands Great Walk and many other walking tracks, allow you to explore the scenic wonders. Admire breathtaking views from Sky Window Lookout or the old Eungella Chalet, or try to spot a platypus at Broken River!
