Cape Hillsborough is located 45 minutes north of Mackay. Located roughly halfway between Cairns (750km North) and Brisbane (950km South), Mackay is easily accessible by air, rail, and road via the Bruce Highway. New signage for Cape Hillsborough and resurfaced roads make the early morning drive an easy one.
If driving before sunrise is not your thing, bus tours do operate to Cape Hillsborough so visit mackayregion.com for more information.
Where to Stay
Is seeing Wallabies and Kangaroos on the beach not enough? Would you prefer a 1 minute walk in the morning to see the Wallabies at Sunrise? Then staying at the tranquil Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park is for you. Located just off the beach, Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park is a popular spot for both locals and visitors. The locals refer to the resident Kangaroos Bridget and Emmy-Lou, whom along with the Wallabies, spend much of their time relaxing in the park.
