ColourDash helps region unite with wave of support for emergency workers

The organisers of ColourDash 3000 are bursting at the seams for the May 7th event, with a host of fresh concepts and bright ideas designed to unite the community after Cyclone Debbie.

The Brave Wave will be a new feature of the event, giving volunteers and emergency workers who helped those in need during and after the cyclone, a free pass to participate in the event.

“We have been through a massive ordeal together and now it is time to come together in a positive way,” Event Director, Sarah Annetts, said.

“We have not restricted the free wave to Mackay emergency responders only because the Cyclone affected Central and North Queensland and we feel that everyone who chipped in should be able to participate.”

The Brave Wave will be held at 11.30am, with 200 places to fill. To register individuals or organisations for this event, send nominations to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

“Spectating on the day is free so we encourage people to come and cheer these special men and women on,” Ms Annetts said.

Ms Annetts said the support from the tourism industry, and those who had registered to attend, was greatly appreciated.

“Tourism and Events Queensland and Mackay Tourism have been incredibly supportive which means that we can encourage more attendance and make our event even better than it was before,” Ms Annetts said.

“It also means that we can encourage visitation from people outside of our region and clearly demonstrate that Mackay is open for business and is just as beautiful as it always was.”

Minister for Tourism, Major Events and the Commonwealth Games Kate Jones said the ColourDash was a great way to bring the Mackay community together following Tropical Cyclone Debbie and recovery efforts in the region.

“The ColourDash is a fantastic community event which will bring together locals and visitors alike in the beautiful Mackay region,” Ms Jones said.

The Queensland Government is proud to support ColourDash through Tourism and Events Queensland as part of the It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar.

The new date of the ColourDash 3000 event is Sunday, 7 May starting at 8am at the Meadowlands Ampitheatre. A Corporate Mayhem Wave and Charity Roulette will form part of the program.
