First ran in the Mackay Region back in 1927, this iconic event is one of the longest running, and the only legal beach motorcycle race in Australia. The race attracts around 350 riders, from all around Australia and draws about 5000 spectators to the event. Gum Valley Motorcycle will be organising the event with the assistance of the Grasstree Progress association. Gum Valley has a long history of well run high profile events including Australian Motocross titles and the Australian four day Enduro event and will bring their expertise to this experience. The racing is unique with the final King of the Beach race, a competition between dirt bikes and street bikes. Most machines have been custom built by avid motorcycle fanatics. An awe inspiring sight to see on the beach. There are 13 classes including juniors, seniors, quad bikes and street bikes. The event caters for thrill seekers, beach goers, and providing a family friendly atmosphere. It allows visitors to explore not only Grasstree Beach, but the greater Mackay Region.
