Get Hooked on Mackay in New Fishing Competition
In exciting news for local and visiting fishing enthusiasts, Mackay Tourism has launched a new Hooked on Mackay fishing competition.
Unveiled at the Mackay Airport by Mackay Regional Council Mayor Greg Williamson, the competition is presented by Jack Link’s, the official sponsors of the Australian Fishing Championship (AFC).
On offer is the ultimate Mackay fishing trip, with the lucky winner and three mates getting the opportunity to fish Eungella Dam with AFC Jack Link’s pro tournament anglers Mitch Cone and Matthew Langford.
Entering the draw is easy, with competition forms available from activation stations located at the Mackay Visitor Information Centre, Sarina’s Mackay Region Visitor Information Centre, the Mackay Airport, or online at www.hookedonmackay.com.au.
Speaking at the launch, Cr Williamson said the competition was sure to get fishing enthusiasts “Hooked on Mackay”.
“The Mackay Region is widely regarded as Australia’s premier fishing destination. From sooty grunter in the impoundments, coral trout on the reefs to the mighty barramundi in our net free zone, anglers travel to our region from far and wide to seek out its fishing experiences,” he said.
Cr Williamson continued, “the Hooked on Mackay website, launched last year, has proven very successful in showcasing The Mackay Region as a fishing destination. The competition starting today adds further incentive for travelling anglers to experience the unspoilt natural beauty and iconic wildlife encounters of our region, by giving them the chance to win this once-in-a-lifetime fishing trip.”
General Manager of Mackay Tourism Tas Webber encouraged people to enter.
“Fishing tourism is a very lucrative market that injects millions of dollars into the region’s economy,” he said.
Mr Webber went on to say, “the lucky winner will receive a money-can’t-buy-experience, fishing for sooty grunter at the beautiful Eungella Dam with two of Australia’s best anglers.”
“Mackay Tourism is proud to partner with Jack Link’s and the Australian Fishing Championship in promoting tourism in The Mackay Region,” he added.
The Hooked on Mackay fishing competition closes 31 October, with the winner to be announced on 1 November. Stay tuned to the Hooked on Mackay Facebook page for competition updates.
