Get involved in tourism today

Mackay Tourism is looking for young people to help showcase The Mackay Region tourism industry by becoming volunteer ambassadors to assist with the new mobile Visitor Information Centre trailer.

The trailer travels to events throughout The Mackay Region to showcase what our region has to offer. Volunteers will get free access to a number of exciting events happening in and around Mackay. This could be the perfect opportunity for someone looking to kick start a career in tourism as well as creating contacts with visitors from all over the world.

Mackay Tourism General Manager Tas Webber, hoped Mackay residents with an interest in tourism would get involved.

“Volunteering with us, and getting out and meeting people across the region would provide a wonderful opportunity for someone who is looking for a career in tourism. Or someone who likes meeting people or is simply proud of our region and seeking to assist travelers to make the most of their time here” Mr Webber said.

Eli Gibson who is currently studying Year 11 volunteers at the Mackay Information Centre thoroughly enjoys the experience. Ely said “I am aspiring for a career in tourism and this is an exciting and practical gateway to fulfilling my ambitions. Meeting travelers from all over the world gives me the cultural and customer service skills that will help me succeed. I’ve also learnt so much about the Mackay region and helping people to enjoy the region as much as I do gives me great pleasure”.
