Mackay in the Running for Australia's Best Beach

Mackay Tourism is calling on proud locals, and inspired visitors to the region, to cast their vote for Australia’s best beach. Cape Hillsborough and Eimeo are in the running and need your support.

The online vote is being conducted by the Guardian, with beaches split into three categories; metro, regional and remote. With voting closing at midnight, Thursday 24 January, locals are being urged to vote for one of Mackay’s iconic beaches.

Representing The Mackay Region, are the beaches at Eimeo and Cape Hillsborough, each worthy of the title of Australia’s best beach. Voicing the beaches support is Mackay Tourism General Manager, Tas Webber.

“The Mackay Region is blessed with 31 pristine beaches, and a stunning tropical climate, that makes a day at the beach a treasured pastime for locals, and a hero experience for visitors”, he said.

“Last year’s successful ‘M is for Mackay’ campaign, that saw over 16,000 votes for Mackay, showcased the level of community pride in promoting our tourism destinations”.

Mr. Webber continued, “with a similar level of support, we can put our beaches on the national map and cement the regions reputation as a tropical paradise”.

“Eimeo Beach is real favourite. The picturesque drive through Mango Avenue, the powder soft sand, the calm, warm water of the Coral Sea, and of course the overlooking Eimeo Pacific Hotel, makes Eimeo a perfect day out for families”, Mr. Webber said.

Mr. Webber also advocated for Cape Hillsborough to be voted as Australia’s best beach.

“The fantastic swimming and fishing alone make Cape Hillsborough worthy of this list, but what makes Cape Hillsborough a clear choice has to be the sunrise wallaby experience”.

“Joining Australia’s iconic wallabies and kangaroos on the beach for sunrise, no other beach can top that experience”, he said.
