Tourism is continuing to establish itself as a leading contributor to The Mackay Region economy following National Visitor Survey data released today for year ending June 2018. For the seventh successive quarter, The Mackay Region recorded an increase in domestic visitation with 898,000 visitors to the region for year ending June 2018 – an increase of 1.7 per cent year on year.
Mackay Tourism is delighted to launch a new marketing campaign that encourages families from across the country to reconnect off the beaten track this summer. From today, right through till the end of summer, some of the region’s favourite tours, and accommodation providers will be offering special deals, available through mackayregion.com/deals.
Guests on the Cape Hillsborough Sunrise with the Wallabies Tour had their hearts melted this morning as two joeys first appeared from inside their mother’s pouch. In a boost to The Mackay Region’s growing tourism industry, Mackay Tourism has announced that it will receive $35,500 in funding as part of the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund.
History will come alive at Mechanos 2018 as Paul Bennet Airshows brings some of the world’s most influential and iconic aircraft to Mackay. On Saturday 11 August Mechanos spectators will get closer than ever before to aircraft that have defined history, and seemingly defy the laws of physics.
From Sunday, July 1, visitors travelling north will be greeted in the region by the new, state-of-the-art Mackay Region Visitor Information Centre. Located in the newly refurbished Sarina Field of Dreams Parklands, this centre has been designed to encourage visitors to continue travelling through to Mackay and explore the surrounding region.

Sunrise this morning ushered in a new dawn for Mackay Tourism, with the official launch the Cape Hillsborough Sunrise with the Wallabies Tours.
