Tourism operators from across The Mackay Region were the toast of the town last night at the 2019 Mackay Region Tourism Awards, hosted and sponsored by the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre (MECC).16 September 2019. Tourism’s night of nights attracted 110 attendees, including tourism operators, dignitaries, stakeholders, Mayor of Mackay Regional Council Cr. Greg Williamson and Mayor of Isaac Regional Council Cr. Anne Baker.

Record high visitor numbers as business confidence grows

The Mackay Region has recorded its highest number of visitors to the region, in the July to September 2017 quarter, with 908,000 domestic visitors.  

Business visitation has grown by a massive 30.6% to 481,000, likely due to cyclone recovery efforts and renewed confidence in the mining sector.
