New Walking Itinerary Released

Getting the family active and out exploring the world has been made easier this summer with the release of a new itinerary from Mackay Tourism. ‘Family Fun & Fitness – Walks in The Mackay Region’ showcases five walking tracks from across The Mackay Region.

Starting off the itinerary is what many consider the perfect introduction to exploring Mackay, the 20km Bluewater Trail loop. Staying in town, the unique wetland ecosystem of the Kommo Toera Trail is next and is an easy 1km walk.

The numerous walking tracks at Cape Hillsborough and Finch Hatton Gorge are next - spectacular journeys featuring stunning views, unique habitats, plentiful wildlife and refreshing swimming opportunities.

Finally, its out west to Clermont, where the difficult but rewarding Peak Range National Park provides true 360 degree views from the remarkable 572 metre Wolfang Peak.

Part of Mackay Tourism’s Summer campaign, this itinerary is designed to encourage older families to visit The Mackay Region during the summer months.

General of Mackay Tourism, Tas Webber, explains, “with hundreds of kilometres of walking tracks, from the bush to the beaches and everything in between, The Mackay Region makes for the perfect destination for families looking to get some exercise and experience nature reserved”.

“The new itinerary isn’t just for visitors either. Locals will love exploring our beautiful own backyard and will uncover some of our regions hidden gems.”

‘Family Fun & Fitness – Walks in the Mackay Region’ is available on the Visit Mackay Facebook page, online at www.mackayregion.com/images/PDFS/Summer_Campaign_digital.pdf and at the Mackay Visitor Information Centre at City Gates and the Mackay Region Visitor Information Centre in Sarina.
