It's the September school holidays and you know what that's time to find some things to do! 

The kids will be nagging you to take them outside, so to help out we've put together a list of Sixteen Days of September Fun.

Now you can fill every day of the school holidays with a new adventure!

DAY 1: Whale watching at Lamberts Beach Lookout

Spot whales by the seaside at the best vantage point in Mackay! Grab some fish and chips and head up to Lamberts Beach Lookout  on Pacific Esplanade for the afternoon. Make sure to check the horizon for any whales splashing around. The best thing about this activity is that it costs you nothing!

 DAY 2: Jarravale Alpacas Miniature Animal Farm


September 20

Jarravale Alpacas and Miniature Animal Farm is the perfect activity for people of all ages, particularly if you love animals! Feed and pat the miniature animals including alpacas, piglets, goats and guinea pigs. Located at 73 Devereux Creek Road Mackay, bookings must be made for guided tours. Find out more information here

 DAY 3: Swim at Bluewater Lagoon

September 21

The Bluewater Lagoon is conveniently located in the city heart, across from Caneland Central Shopping Centre, and is a great attraction for kids and adults. The newly revamped kids splash playground will be a hit with your littlies and Pancake Bliss will take care of your hungry tummies! Opening hours are 9am to 5.45pm Monday to Sunday. Entry is free.

 DAY 4: Rumble on the Reef Skateboarding

September 22

Celebrate the launch day of Rumble on the Reef in Mackay with a Learn to Skate workshop! Starting at 8.30am at Sugar Bowl Skatepark on Norris Road. Two sessions per day between September 22-26, run by Sydney's best women-led skateboard school, Ollisonny. Book your tickets here.

 DAY 5: River Street Markets

September 23

The entire family will love taking a trip to the local Farmer's Markets at Bluewater Quay. Held every Wednesday morning, this September School Holidays will feature a special markets filled with more stalls, more food and more activities the kids will love. The markets are also a great place to buy fresh produce and sample local treats. Take home your fresh veggies and show the kids how to cook up a healthy meal. 

TIME: Every Wednesday, 7am-11am. Special market only on September 23. 




 DAY 6: Finch Hatton Gorge

With the weather warming up, there is not better time to hike up to Finch Hatton Gorge and take a dip in the refreshing cool water. The hike is suitable for most fitness levels and ages and rewards you with stunning waterfall views. Pack a picnic and enjoy the serenity.

 DAY 7: September Weekender Family Night

September 25

Your family will love watching Chores -  an action-packed comedy circus show full of clowns and acrobats. The tale of two brothers who don't want to do their chores will be told through stunts, jokes and music. Book your tickets here.

DAY 8: September Weekender Club Briefs

It will be well-worth hiring a babysitter to attend this incredible 18+ cabaret show. Mischief-makers Briefs present a wild romp of disco dancing, circus, variety and burlesque featuring a hand-picked selection of guests from across the world of queer cabaret. Book your tickets here.

 DAY 9: September Weekender Karen Jacobsen

September 27

Enjoy brunch while you listen to the musical memoir of Mackay-born celebrity Karen Jacobsen. A singer, songwriter, motivational speaker and the voice of Australian Siri, Karen's performance will blow you away. Book your tickets here.

 DAY 10: Sarina Field of Dreams

The Sarina Field of Dreams is the perfect place to stop for a picnic and enjoy the variety of activities on offer. Marvel at the Sugar Mill and check out the museum, arts and crafts building and gallery before you take the Sarina Sugar Shed tour! An interactive experience that people of all ages can take part in, you will love watching the mini sugar mill in action and the kids will love sampling home-made fairy floss click here to book your tour. Make sure to drop in to the Mackay Region Visitor Information Centre during your visit and ask about the passport competition, you could win up to $3000! For more information click here.

 DAY 11: Explore the Isaac coast

Fancy a 4WD on the beach? Pack the car and go camping at Cape Palmerston National Park - home to stunning views, great fishing and natural wonders. Carmila Beach, Clairview and St Lawrence are also must-visit locations if you are in the area. Why not spend a few days in the Isaac region relaxing with the family - it's the perfect beachside getaway.

DAY 12: Visit the platypus

A must-do activity in the Mackay Region is visiting the platypus at Eungella National Park! Head to the viewing platforms at Broken River at dusk or dawn for the best chance of spotting the furry creatures. Stop at Platypus Lodge Restaurant for a bite to eat and explore the many hikes in the area to complete your visit.

DAY 13: Rumble on the Reef Wakeboarding

October 1

You've seen the skateboarding, but now it's time to hit the waters edge and watch the pros show off their wakeboarding skill. The competition will run for three days and is suitable for all ages to attend and watch. Check out the WakeHouse cafe while you are there. For more information click here.

DAY 14: Sunrise with the wallabies

October 2

You can't go past a visit to Cape Hillsborough to watch the wallabies on the beach at sunrise. A magnificent experience for people of all ages, this is a free activity the kids will love. Go for a hike up to Andrews Point lookout during your visit and finish with morning tea at The Old Station Teahouse which opens Thursday to Sunday.

DAY 15: Go Karting at Sidetrax

October 3

Any rev-heads in the family? Your kids will love you for taking them go-karting at Sidetrax. If you like a thrill and some healthy competition, challenge your family to a race and test out your skills on the track. Open Wednesday to Sunday, for more information or to book click here.

DAY 16: Picnic at Platypus Beach

It's the last day of the holidays! Get the family together before school returns and have a picnic on the sandy shores of Platypus Beach. Located in Mirani, this is the perfect place for a barbecue, swim and kayak.
